I realize that these last few posts have been rather vague, but the point of these activities is to make them as personal as possible while still providing ideas to add to your own Bucket List—and how to carry them out.
Like the last bunch, this one is again, highly personal. This task is to dedicate a period of your life to something important to you. The time period and the item of importance are both totally up to you. Perhaps you could give a moment of silence once a week—or even once a day—for someone you miss, or for world peace. Maybe you’ll give two years in service to the Peace Corps or to the military. Whatever you choose, make it something that’s important to you.
Including a few of my own picks, plus others, here is a list of ideas you might be interested in:
- An entire weekend, or week, to silence. You can do this at home, by renting a hotel room, or by visiting a monetary. Make your own rules: will you allow a phone for emergencies? A radio? Is the silence just not talking on your part, or no sound at all? Will you read, meditate, sleep?
- A month to kindness. Maybe you could practice a random act of kindness once a day, or plan out something kind for someone special in your life every day for a week.
- A year to your religious studies. Perhaps you could do a religious concept, chapter, leader or saint once a day, or do as many Wiccans do and embark on a Year and a Day.
- A weekend to detox. Many people are in to detoxification these days, and you can choose how far you’ll go. Will you just drink liquids and do yoga? Or maybe you’ll even have an enema done, or go to a spa.
- A retreat. For a few minutes, hours or days—your choice! Try getting a half hour massage, renting a room and ordering room service, or attending an earthy drum circle.
- A monthly family day. Maybe it’s just for the girls, or the whole family—see a movie, ride a go-kart; just spend time together.
- A year to simplicity. See how little you can live on, what you can give away, and what you would actually want back afterwards.
- A month without a bad habit. Maybe it’s fast food, smoking or biting your nails.
