See a 100, Read 100, Do 100

One of the most popular items that seems to be showing up on Living To-Do Lists everywhere is the “100 List.” I have a couple of these on my own Living To Do List—see 100 Oscar-nominated films as well as read 100 pieces of great classical literature. Though these seem like huge items—as if they are 100 things on your list rather than a single item each!—in reality, they’re both things that you’ve probably already completed at least partially.

Think about it… How many works of literature were you required to read in high school or college? How many did you read growing up? The same goes with movies. If you look up great works of literature, as well as Oscar-nominated films, you may find that you’ve already crossed both of these things off your list. Voila—two checkmarks!

You may want to add other “100 things” items to your own list, like see 100 historically significant places, camp in 100 different parks, or memorize 100 great quotations. Or, you may want to add some things from the same theme that you could actually complete within a day—such as do 100 sit-ups, eat 100 bites of ice cream, or build a castle using only 100 Leggos. These may sound frivolous, but the point of the list isn’t just to bring meaning and reverence into your life—it’s for fun, too!

Pick out 100 things you might want to do. Maybe you’d like to try 100 different variations of fruit, or listen to 100 symphonies. Whatever your thing is, see if you can make a 100 list out of it and start ticking it off in your Living To-Do List!

If you’re still stumped, here are some more ideas to get you started:

  • Write 100 poems
  • Draw with 100 different colors of crayon (It can be done using a single box!)
  • Write 100 letters to people you love and send them
  • Write a story using only 100 words
  • Take your child to visit 100 places you saw as a child
  • Eat vegetarian, go to bed early, or engage in another healthy habit for 100 days (It’s only a few months!)
  • Do 100 nice things for people in your neighborhood—or people you don’t know!
  • Do 100 nice things for yourself—from getting a massage to a new outfit to simply allowing yourself some work-free time to enjoy

Do you have a 100 list started already? What things do you have on it?
