Remembering to thank the people who made you who you are

Remembering to thank the people who made you who you are

It’s important to let people know that they’ve had a positive impact on your life.

As we travel through life, many things in the world affect us and determine who we will end up becoming.  Religion, politics, nature and many other outside influences shape our beliefs and goals.  But the one thing that truly changes us more than anything else is the people that we surround ourselves with.  It is through the wisdom of others and the reflection of ourselves that we see in other people’s eyes that we learn, grow and ultimately prosper.  Before death comes, it’s important to let these people know how much they’ve meant to you over the years.

Unfortunately, sometime we don’t always get the chance to do this.  Some of the people who have influenced us have already passed away.  Others are inaccessible to us, heroes or famous people that have influenced us through their works and messages.  But even if it’s not possible to reach them directly, it’s still important to try.

You never know when some person that has been a hero to you your entire life might come upon that randomly sent email where you tell them how much they’ve helped you.  These sorts of things affirm what they’ve been doing with their own life and in turn you become the one giving the help, balancing the scales a bit.

To the ones closest to you it can mean a great deal to tell them face-to-face.  And you never know when those people may leave you for good.  Time is of the essence and putting off a simple thank you can sometimes mean that you never get that chance.

As a community of human beings on the Earth, each with our own goals and desires, we rely on each other for support.  No one sees their life as being important or worthwhile all of the time.  Sometimes they need that outside voice to help them along.  And if they’ve given you the support and inspiration when you needed it, it’s the right thing to do to give that back to them.
